I don't go to this place enough! Every time i go its awesome and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. The food is also excellent. Its hard to pick a favorite roll. People that have problems with this place are mentally unstable or just general crabby assholes. The last time i went, it was 30 minutes before closing and still got excellent service and more than excellent food and sake! Totally recommend this place if you are looking for tasty sushi on the aoith side!

Oct 20, 2009 Having the opportunity to experience authentic sushi from Northern Japan to Tokyo, I will say Hayashi is right on track... A bit expensive but then again we are in the USA... Regular for lunch, no rude lady experiences yet..

Excellent sushi! This place is awesome, the rolls are huge and taste great. Our favorite is the Spicy Spicy Roll; we had the Beverly Roll last night and it was pretty damned good! I'll have to check out the Tokyo Sushi Bar on the north side.

I went to Sushi Hayashi for my sister's birthday dinner and I have never in my life been treated so badly. There was 5 of is. We ate our food and sat at our table quietly. We were just talking and celebrating my sister's birthday. Then that lady came to our table and said "You can pay and leave."... We were all a little confused because they weren't closing and we had not been sitting there long. Not even 30 minutes after we were finished eating. We all went up to the front to pay and my friend told her she was upset because she loved coming to this place and loved her sushi, but she did not appreciate the rudeness. The lady then proceeded to tell my friend to "shutup." The lady got so mad and told us to pay our ticket, get out of her restaurant, and never come back. She even threw out the "you people" term. We gave her our money, which we easily could have just walked out on. She threw the money back at us. She went to grab her phone and said she was going to call the cops on us. She kept saying she had cameras, which in our case would have helped us because we had done nothing. Then they told us to go home and be rude to our mothers like that. EXCUSE ME?? You don't say that to someone...especially a customer. She put her hands on her head and said we were giving her a headache...Seriously?? Rude. We left, extremely mad. My brother-in-law went back to talk to her and she kept referring to my friend as "that fat one." WHO DOES THAT??!! They do not know how to run a business. Needless to say, I will never go back there.

This place has the most legit sushi you can find in okc. I saw the reviews of taxes being done wrong or extras being added on the ticket, I haven't noticed it, but if it's true I can't get mad at a locally owned restaurant that charges $5 more than the prices say. People are really complaining about ten percent of taxes instead of 8?? Their prices for the quality of sushi is pretty damn good so I won't complain about a two percent difference on my tab. My boyfriend looooves the yumi yumi. I love the sushi too but I do have one problem, the rolls are huge. Like I have to cut them in half and they are still pretty big. That could be a pro for people with big mouths I guess though. Service is a lot different than an American run business. They aren't overly nice like we are, but that's just the differences of cultures. So don't take it personal if they don't do small talk with you. Overall, this place is awesome.

The owner honed his skills as a sushi chef in an elite Los Angeles enclave. Now he does his thing in Oklahoma City. It's the best sushi in town. I'm warmly greeted every time and the sushi is crafted expertly. Every special request is accommodated. Yum.

I loooove sushi. & This place has some great tasting sushi. I come here to get takeout often.. They have a wide selection of different sushis. All the kinds I try are amazing !! But with that said the service is lacking. Mainly why I get it to go!

Hayashi Sushi is located in a upscale strip mall on the S.E. corner of Pennsylvania and S.W. 104th street. I started my Sushi experience here in May 2009 and was delighted with the taste. I took my wife to lunch but she didn't like Sushi, so every Tuesday at lunch I go by myself. On one occasion I invited my youngest son who travels nationally and is in San Francisco often to lunch with me and he liked it very much. I told him that the next time we had Sushi we would try another Sushi restaurant since Hayashi was the only one I had been to. My Son told me to stay here that I wouldn't find any better Sushi anywhere. So with that recommendation and friends confirming that opinion I am a loyal customer. Jin is the chef owner and has a excellent wait staff. I though at first that I had meet the Sushi Nazi because of the woman who takes your money, now I am pleased to say she is more pleasant and cordial to customers now. outh Pennsylvania

The fire cracker was awesome. The guy at the sushi bar was excellent. He showed me the right way to eat sushi. I'll be going back there again.

Sushi Hayashi is a hidden gem of delicious, tantalizing, you'll-come-back-again sushi! If you live in southside OKC/Moore/Norman, this is most likely more closer (and quite possibly more delicious) than Sushi Neko, Musashi's, & Tokyo Japan. Pros: speciality sushi (I don't do cream cheese in sushi, though, so I can really judge based on those), atmosphere, Japanese beer, romantic date night spot Cons: service (though it has gotten progressively better, and the sushi honestly makes up for it), price & wait (but what good quality sushi isn't expensive and doesn't take a while?) See below for longer review. My absolute two favorites on the specialty menu: rainbow roll & volcano roll. The rainbow roll is a simple California roll with 5 different kinds of fish on top. They must put some coating on the outside because it is unlike ANY sushi I have come across in OKC. It's simple, filling, and will keep you comin back for more. The volcano roll is a baked crab roll with white fish around it topped with some sort of special sauce. . .thatll make you feel like you're in heaven! This go around I also had the Saba Saba - chopped Japanese mackerel with masago & garlic sauce. I think the garlic sauce threw my taste buds for a loop and wasn't really my thing. Had my friend eat up most of it. I stuck with my favs listed above :) The decor is just right, and the restaurant is lightly dimmer if you're looking for a quaint, romantic restaurant you can go to with your partner. But, here's something I think most regulars know: the lady at the front desk, who I assume is the owner, has a bit of a tough exterior. She has gotten significantly better at her social skills with customers, though. Also the wait can be a bit long. . .but hella worth it. Even with the cons, I'm still go in this place a 4/5 (wish I could give a 4.5). Just trust me on this one! For sushi smack dab in the middle of OKC, I'm quite doubtful you can find a place that rivals Sushi Hayashi.

I am not a sushi fan, but my friends are. I had the chicken teriyaki salad edamame and miso soup. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was really good! My friends really loved their sushi! By the way! :)

My bill got over charged :( That rude lady do that all the time to their customers! Be aware folks

Great local spot and super fresh fish. Always enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. Grill items are good as well. Sesame chicken is my kids favorite
(4)Tyler J.
Just like other reviewers, I got ripped off here. Charged me for miso that I never received, charged $4 more for a roll than what the menu said, charged me for more expensive nigiri since they were out of halibut, then charged over 10% tax. When I told lady (yes, the one up at the front that is rude to everyone), she only took $1 off for the miso and then rang my credit card up without confirming the final amount. Just ridiculous. The sushi here is decent. Portions are all over the place and difficult to eat. Fish was just ok. Be sure to check your bill if you come here though!

Great sushi but terrible service. Five of us went to Sushi Hayashi and had some pretty good sushi. The fish was fresh and rolls were pretty good. However, the servers are pretty rude. The big deal breaker is the Korean lady that I presume to be the owner at the cash register. Upon completion of our meal, we were not told that there was a 18% gratuity added on. I asked the lady to double check because I thought my bill was a little high. She re-added the bill and neglected to say anything about the gratuity added even after asking her to clarify the bill. Our whole group ended up double tipping because they didn't even give us the courtesy to state the added gratuity on the bill. I thought this was pretty classless on their part. Although the food is good, I'm 50/50 on if I'll return because of the exceptionally rude staff. If you do visit Sushi Hayashi, be prepared to be treated like dirt and always double check your individual bill.

Worst sushi experience ever. The sushi chef was very friendly and was trying to understand the roll I was wanting when the lady from the front rudely interrupted & after I explained what I wanted informed me that would be a $20 roll back in KC it's $13. After that she basically forced me into a rainbow roll. Not what I usually get when I order one. Needless to say $30 later I left feeling bullied.

I always try to leave positive reviews... but... just couldn't on this one. Sat at sushi bar at lunch on a Monday.. miso soup was typical. Ordered the Beverly Roll with brown rice. Only 4 pieces for $11.95, and it was another $1 for brown rice. The brown rice was very dark in color - almost like it had been seasoned with lots of soy sauce to make it brown rice? Still couldn't figure it out. I left feeling jipped and with a $15 bill... and still hungry.

This is the best Sushi I've had in Oklahoma. It's so fresh, melt in your mouth fresh! I never get out of there for under 300$,but when you have the extra money it is totally worth it! Friendly staff and great service! It's hard to find good sushi around and this is just fabulous! I love the white tuna seaweed salad to start and the spicy tuna and white tuna sushi rolls! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
(5)Juju G.
I love how Sushi Hayashi is so close to me! I usually go on a Thursday Friday or Saturday and order the salmon or super white tuna sashimi along with a random specialty roll. I haven't experienced any issues with the sushi or the owner this year. The food has always looked beautiful and tasted good. I will say though when they first opened I think 5 years or so ago the food was not great like it is now. I suggest if you haven't gone to Sushi Hayashi in a few years give it a chance, because I too was not going to ever return but now I'm so happy I did because it's my favourite sushi place in OKC minus the odd fast food looking like atmosphere. Also, I will add that I have never had any issues with the lady that works there, she has never even spoken to me so, maybe all the reviews have changed her attitude =D

I've eaten here quite a few times. I ordered a sushi role, ate two pieces, and didn't like it. I told the server. Now, I have been a server and I have worked hosting jobs, and usually now is when they offer if they can get you anything else. I didn't get any of that. The server said she was sorry. So I asked if there would be some way to get something that I do like? She went to get the manager, the lady from the front I suppose, who was extremely rude to me and told me that I ate all my role. She lied to my face. I barely ate any of it. I was taken aback at how poor their customer service was and I will not being going back there. She got into my face and yelled at me, saying that their sushi is exceptional and that I should be respectful and that I needed to pay for the sushi. I paid for the terrible role since I didn't want anymore rudeness from the lady at the front but I am pretty sure she ripped me off and added extra money onto the bill (always check your bill here! She does everything on a calculator and I'm pretty sure she charges 10% in tax instead of the regular 8%) I would advise against going. Poor customer service. I don't even want to rate this a 1...it was worse.

Freshest sushi in Oklahoma. They make all of their sauces in house. As good as it gets!!

So my friend picks me up from the airport and says "Are you hungry? We can go to this sushi place I like." Being accustomed to the great Japanese restaurants in California, I was a little skeptical about her suggestion. But I thought, what the hell...now I'll be able to say I ate sushi in Oklahoma. We walked in and were greeted by the welcoming staff. Still being a little skeptical, I decided to stay away from their specialty rolls and kept it safe by ordering the Philly roll and edamame. It was good, but after trying some of my friend's specialty roll I was kicking myself in the ass for not being more adventurous. With all that said, the food was good. The service was good. The decor was interesting. That's the first time I've been in a Japanese restaurant with brightly painted walls, paper lanterns, and wall hangings of the Eiffel Tower.

I'm sorry, but I really don't see what all the hype is about. The lady at the counter was rude, and our waiter was obnoxious. The veggie tempura was a giant, greasy lump of mixed shoestring vegetables, mostly unidentifiable and extremely difficult to pry apart with chopsticks. The sushi was well made, but the rolls were a bit small for the price.
(3)Reina S.
Best sushi in Moore! Good portions, and reasonable prices.
(5)Trenna L.
Love this place and so my kids. Sushi is so fresh and never taste "fishy". Try the spicey spicey roll and beef teriyaki is awesome.
(5)Jamie G.
Delicious sushi, rude lady at the counter. Rude in more than one occasion. Example: I was paying with a credit card but bill was less than 10 bucks and she literally barked at me "read the sign". I have given up going there because don't feel treated like a paying customer. The feeling I get is they are honoring me by letting me come to their place.

I've had a few really good meals here. The sushi is always excellent and Jin, the owner, is nice to talk to when we sit at the sushi bar. His recommendations on fish have been great. He will even do some customization for you if he's not too busy. This place and Tokyo on the north side are the only places anyone should ever go to for sushi in Oklahoma City.

THE OWNER LADY NEEDS TO GET THE CHOPSTICK OUT OF HER BUTT!!!! The absolute RUDEST service I have EVER had, and she tried to rip me off by adding $6 extra dollars to my bill. Watch out because you will NOT get an itemized receipt, and she will add everything up on her calculator instead of the register so you can't see her numbers. PLUS she "added" an automatic 18% gratuity fee to our bills. We only had THREE people!!! WILL NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!

Sushi Hayashi is, IMO, the best sushi you're going to find in the southside/Moore/Norman area (northside, that honor belongs entirely to Tokyo Sushi Bar). A few times, I've been in and the place has smelled a little fishy but nothing distracting. Service is usually quick and the food is delicious. They know how to make an avocado roll (which you'd think would be simple but you'd be surprised)- the avocado portion is ample and ripe (not too firm or too mushy), the rice isn't vinegar-y, it doesn't fall apart when you look at it. Very, very good. Located in a strip mall but the inside is bright and cheery.

The sushi at this restaurant is ok. They charge you an extra dollar for any extra spicy mayo or eel sauce and they don't tell you about it. They also say they charge 8.375% tax but they really charge 10.6%. Check out your bill if you decide to go here. They are making more than 2% extra off of every person they serve. That's alot in the long run. Also the beers are around $10. Won't be eating there again. I'd rather go to sushi neko any day.

Best sushi I have had in OKC!!!

I must say there is a wide range of reviews listed and I have to say that was some great sushi. It was an accident that we turned up at this place for lunch. Each month my co-workers and I eat sushi duing the lunch hour. Since one of the places we frequent was closed for two weeks we somehow managed to find this location. Not know anything about this place we strolled in and sat down. Servers were friendly and realizing there were 7 in our group I ordered 3 edamame to hold us over. Little disappointed with the amount that was provided since this is not an expensive item to serve. There were some interesting choices - My question to the waiter "What is the most popular" The response The Spicy Cowboy. Which I order and it was very good. However, the best was yet to come The Jin Roll was a little piece of heaven. The most expensive one on the menu at $11.95 but well worth it I'll never give a 5 Star rating but was tempted on this one. Overall I would highly recommend this place. Since it was done during our lunch hour I hav no basis of opinion at the dinner hour.

I'm not sure what some of the other yelpers are bitching about. I have eaten here many times and have always had great food and great service. The spicy cowboy roll is my favorite!

Let me begin by stating that I have experienced bad restaurant service several times in my life. None of those experiences, however, have ever made me even consider writing a bad review. Last night I came in to Sushi Hayashi with my brother and about 12 of our friends to celebrate his birthday. Many of us have worked part time jobs as servers, bus boys, etc. at restaurants and understand that with a party like this it should be expected that the service be a little worse than usual. Our orders were taken in a rushed manner which consisted of one of our servers just going around taking everyone's sushi order sheet, skipping those who were going to order off the dinner menu. I didn't think too much of this and let it slide. In addition, my drink was not refilled unless I asked the server for more water. Again, I didn't make a fuss about it. The real kicker, though, was when we brought out the birthday cake that we had purchased at a different place. We kindly asked the server for some small plates and forks. The owner's wife came back with about half as many plates as we needed and told us that we need to bring our own paper plates and forks next time. Wait, what? She must be joking, right? Apparently not, because when my friend came in earlier to bring the cake and put it in their fridge she had told him the same thing. After we ate the cake the server awkwardly said to us, "I don't mean to rush you guys or anything but we're actually closed." We were still waiting for them to return our checks to sign! I assume the owner's wife ordered him to say that to us because this has happened to me before on a separate occasion. I didn't want to make a scene in the restaurant, so I decided to restrain myself and instead leave a note on the back of my receipt. From what I remember, I wrote, "Tell the manager that it is very rude to tell a paying customer that they need to 'bring their own plates' in order to celebrate and eat someone's birthday cake. Seeing as this is my second bad experience I will not be returning!" I thought that would be the end of it but I was wrong. As we were leaving the grumpy old lady comes storming outside, asking, "Okay, who is Alex?" I replied, identifying myself. She went on about how she doesn't need to provide us plates since we did not buy the cake from her restaurant. I've celebrated dozens of birthdays at many different restaurants, and not one time was I ever told to do this. After a few more exchanges she got even angrier with us, at which point several of my friends had stepped in to the argument. We told her a bit about how customer service should be and whatnot, and at one point she actually got in my friend's face, jabbing him in the shoulder with her pen and telling him he should respect his elders. Respect? Last time I checked, respect is something earned, not given. I find it hard to respect an adult who is acting so childish, and - as per the old lady's request - I will not be returning to Sushi Hayashi.

Reasonable and awesome place to eat sushi. Oklahoma Roll and Salmon Nigiri is great.
(5)Ryan G.
The sushi was good, the service was great, and the setting was funny. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the rolls were though they were lacking in spice. We got some sashimi as well and were awed at the massive portions. Unfortunately the yellow tail was only OK and the octopus was terrible. The octopus was still slightly frozen and obviously very old giving it more chewiness than it should have. The chef asked us why we had not finished the octopus and we kindly explained. He then argued with us that octopus was always that chewy and we were mistaken. Thumbs down. I've had octopus all over the world....its not that chewy, frozen, and flavorless. I recommend the rolls and would definitely go back - just avoid or be careful of what you order when it comes to sashimi and cut pieces. Also, ask about quantities - we ended up with a $130 bill for 2 people! We were sampling a number of things but that number was a bit high in my opinion.
(3)Jana N.
Great sushi! Walked in & placed a to-go order in person, had my food in 10 minutes. Friendly staff, great prices, will be back for more! I stuck with a "safe" sushi choice, California roll. Next time I'll be more adventurous!
(5)Esther L.
This is the closest sushi place near me. They are also not cheap. However I believe you are paying more for better food. The fish here are thick and fresh. At least for Oklahoma standard. The rolls are interesting and the chef makes all the sauces himself. The food is very good and I am always full. The best thing here is the salmon sashimi. It's the salmon belly and it's very creamy! The only place in okc to even be able to get such quality.
